There is not a whole lot to say, the advantage of simple layouts are that they are simple to explain, if you want to get a journal that looks like above, copy out the text from each of the files into their relevant sections (journalheader.txt for the header, journalbody.txt for the body, journalfooter.txt for the footer (required to conform to the license) and journalcss.txt for the css).
If not, the CSS should (emphasis should be applied to that) work with just the CSS and nothing else (of course, that footer has to be included :B).
Known issues Presently the 'userbar' only works as intended (as in, in a tabbed manner) while using Firefox. Opera, Safari and IE7 all display the userbar with blue underneath the buttons.

Simple layout, which is a good thing cause I noticed that most of the time some people get lost with all the divs of complicated layouts
I noticed just a difference between this preview and the working one. In the working version under the links on the top there's a big padding...you can see the blue of the header continuing under them, while in this preview those links look like "tabs". (If I'm not making sense I can take a screenshot but it's really not easy to explain it... )
There's also a problem with IE... but then again all CSS looks messed up in IE and since you weren't allowed to use images at all I suppose no journal will look normal in there
Yeah, that seems to be a problem if you're using anything but Firefox, it seems, I am unsure what, exactly, is going on, but for the moment it's not a deal breaker issue.
Firefox 2? It displays perfectly for me and I built the layout using Firefox 2, if you're using the same, then some sort of weird voodoo must be going on
